Origins
The birth of 394 (West Island) Wing is somewhat unique
as its charter date (1 Jul 94) corresponds to the date upon which the
former RCAFA became AFAC. As a result, 394 Wing became the first to be
granted a charter under the newly formed AFAC. The Wing number corresponds
to the year of formation. Hence the number 394. (The AFAC numbering scheme
has allocated the 300-series numbers to Wings located in Quebec Group).
Meetings
394 (West Island) Wing meets at 19:30 hours on the third
Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at:
(Churchill) Branch No. 91, Royal Canadian Legion
28 Ste-Anne Street
Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC.
General (regular) meetings are held from September to
May and the Annual General Meeting and elections are held in June of each
year. The executive meets during the summer and at other times when circumstances
dictate.
General Information
The Wing takes part in many activities and has traditionally
hosted the annual Battle of Britain dinner since 1997. Although 394 Wing
doesn't directly support an Air Cadet squadron, its members are quite
active in supporting cadet activities throughout the West Island. The
"AFAC Trophy" is presented every year to the Air Cadet achieving
the highest score on the regional flying and gliding scholarship selection
examination. This trophy is presented by a member of the Wing executive
at the winning cadet's annual inspection. 394 Wing also made a financial
contribution to 690 (Lakeshore) Squadron's hobby club.
