Christina Handler Memorial AwardThe Christina Handler Memorial Award was approved at the 2003 NEC mid-term meeting in memory of the former Association Comptroller who tirelessly and unselfishly contributed so much to the Association. This plaque recognizes annually the contribution made by an Association member in a non-elected position. The award is presented to an individual who has, like Christina, worked tirelessly and unselfishly for the benefit of the Association. The first recipient of this prestigious
annual award is: National Awards394 (West Island) Wing was presented with the National President's Award in 2002 for a 57.3% increase in membership over a 3-year period. The Wing's Membership Chairman Nick Capron received the National Vice-President's Award for his membership campaign contributions. Quebec Group received the National Group Efficiency Award in 2004 for a 6.3% increase in membership over a 3-year period. Tissandier AwardGroup Immediate Past-President Jean-Louis Denis, CD received the Tissandier Award in February 2000 in a ceremony held at the Canadian Space Agency in Saint-Hubert. Jean-Louis' numerous activities and scope of involvement in the aerospace community was deemed of great merit due to his extreme devotion to preserving the aviation history and to promoting aerospace in all circles. Trans-Canada McKee Trophy394 Wing member and former Honourary Colonel of 438 ETAH"City of Montreal" Tactical Helicopter Squadron André O. Dumas, CD received the Trans-Canada McKee Trophy for his life-long involvement and contributions to the aviation community. Before being appointed HCol of 438 ETAH, André's military career saw him rise to the rank of Wing Commander. He also founded 226 Trois-Rivières Ouest Air Cadet Squadron, served as Provincial President of the Air Cadet League and is now its Honourary President. André is also Honourary President of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. In "civvie" life, André had a remarkable career in the Aviation branch of Transport Canada, retiring as Regional Director for the Québec Region. Quebec Air and Space Hall of Fame394 (West Island) Wing member and former Honourary Colonel of 438 Tac(H) Sqn André O. Dumas, CD was inducted in the Quebec Air and Space Hall of Fame on November 26, 2003. The presentation citation reads as follows: André O. Dumas, CD (born in 1923). Pilot on aircraft carrier HMS Battler during the war. Flight instructor at the Montreal Flying Club in 1948. He rapidly became known as an ardent promoter of aviation, particularly among the youth, being implied for over 50 years with the Air Cadet League. Climbing all the administrative echelons he became Regional Director of Civil Aviation in Transport Canada, President of the RCFCA (now Aero Club of Canada), President of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), FAI delegate within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Honorary Colonel of No. 438 Squadron, etc. Among the honors he has received, we must note the prestigious award of the Trans Canada/McKee trophy in 1998. 50-Year AFAC Service Pins William Brennan (306) |
